Hey Mom!

I am sorry if this email isn't very organized. I have a lot to say, and not much time to say it! It looks like President Mecham called you already. He is a really amazing guy!

Well.. I have been sent to the island of Pohnpei! Which means I am learning Pohnpeian. I never realized how hard it would be to learn a new language.. Its not something that you just "pick up". The natives really think I'm funny when I try to speak their language, but I will catch on in time. It is beautiful here, and the people are really nice. The members give us all kinds of fresh fruit. The bananas are so sweet here! I could eat a hundred of them and they wouldn't get old. I also had fresh coconut water for the first time the other day. We just cut off the top of the Coconut and start drinking. It tastes so good!

I thought Grandpa was joking when he told me what will happen when I get here. He said that the first thing they would give me is a sheet to know how to say basic phrases, and a machete. It turns out that he was exactly right. The first day I got here, I was handed a little booklet to help me learn the language, and I am getting my machete today! Life is so different here. The people literally live in grass roof huts. Most of them have concrete floors, and they are lucky if they have walls. Most people live without walls on their houses. Just a roof to keep out the rain. I have been truly humbled here. It is the hardest adjustment that I have ever had to make. Our house is filthy. We don't have warm water, and the bugs march around like they own the place. I seriously feel like I am camping when I am at our home. Camping in church clothes... Fun! Honestly, I am having a really hard time.. This is definitely one of the hardest things I have ever done. The hardest part is the language. Yesterday at church I spent three hours at church, and had no idea what was going on. After church I was in tears. Everything is good, I just have to adjust to the new environment! Just please keep me in your prayers! I am sorry, but I am out of time. I love you all so much. Don't forget that! Happy Birthday Dawson! I love you buddy! Eat some ice cream for me!

Stay Strong family, and live like you mean it!

Your Son, Brother, and friend,
Elder Dallin Lyman
